Shakarpara

Shakarpara is a popular Indian sweet snack, often enjoyed during festivals like Diwali. It's made from a simple dough of flour, ghee, sugar, and cardamom powder. The dough is rolled out thin, cut into diamond shapes, and deep-fried until golden brown. The fried pieces are then dipped in a sugar syrup to add sweetness and a crispy texture

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and ghee.
  2. Rub the ghee into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Gradually add water and knead into a firm dough.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Roll and Cut

  1. Roll out the dough into a thin sheet.
  2. Cut the dough into desired shapes, such as diamonds or squares.

Step 3: Fry the Shakarpara

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  2. Fry the cut pieces of dough in hot oil until golden brown.
  3. Drain the fried shakarpara on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 4: Make the Sugar Syrup

  1. In a saucepan, combine powdered sugar, cardamom powder, and a little water.
  2. Heat the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously, until a thick syrup forms.

  1. Dip the fried shakarpara into the warm sugar syrup.
  2. Coat the shakarpara evenly with the syrup.
  3. Place the coated shakarpara on a plate to dry.

Step 6:Cool and Serve

Once the shakarpara has cooled completely, store them in an airtight container.
