Whole Wheat Momos

Whole wheat momos are a healthier and more nutritious version of the popular street food, momos. They are made using whole wheat flour instead of the usual all-purpose flour, making them a great option for those who are looking for a healthier and more wholesome meal.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Water, as needed

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add water, kneading until a soft, pliable dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 30 seconds.
  3. Add onions and sauté until softened.
  4. Add cabbage and carrots and cook until slightly softened.
  5. Add soy sauce, red chili powder, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.

Step 3: Assemble the Momos

  1. Divide the dough into small balls.
  2. Roll out each ball into a thin circle.
  3. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.
  4. Pleat the edges of the dough to seal the filling.

Step 4: Steam the Momos

  1. Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  2. Place the momos in the steamer basket, ensuring they don't touch.
  3. Cover the pot and steam for 10-12 minutes, or until cooked through.

Step 5: Serve

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil.
